Recording long stretches of time, capturing it, is the essence of the triple date timepiece.  One glance at the dial reveals the catalog of rotations, the accumulation of energy and momentum that is hours ticking into days, days into months.  A calendar watch with time only display is a subtle yet powerful reminder of where we are in the universe - in time - it depicts the fundamental fabric of our lives...with uncanny style.

Triple date time pieces come in scads of expressions and executions and utilize a wide array of movements, from specialized in-house movements to more common Swiss base movements.  One of the most readily available triple date drivetrains is the Valjoux 72C manually-winding chronograph movement, a stalwart workhorse whose guts can be found in some of the most sought-after chronographs on the planet.  But unlike most things watch-related, being common place does not make the Valjoux less valuable.  In fact, the movements are so well regarded that the watches they power often command a premium over other, similar pieces.

Known mainly for their closely association with the Breitling family, Wakmann was the US distributor of Breitling watches from the 1940s to the 1970s. Some watches from this era were actually co-signed as Breitling/Wakmann; however Wakmann also brought their own line of sporting timepieces to the market, often utilizing Breitling's supply chain of high grade components but retailed with entry level price points.

This particular piece, a Wakmann triple date from the late 1960s, is driven by a Valjoux 730 which was a specialized Valjoux calendar movement based on the 72.  At roughly 37mm in diameter, it offers an exceptional wrist feel and it's sporty panda dial makes it aesthetically pleasing.  In excellent condition over all, this Wakmann is a great way to get your hands on a great looking triple date without having to cash in the Roth IRA.
