There’s nothing more classic and appealing than a simple dress watch.

Though to be fair, when we say “simple,” we mean “uncomplicated” — not unattractive! The 21st century saw a plethora of such watches hit the market. Generally available on leather straps and featuring two or three hands, these reliable wristwatches kept time during the classiest decades of the past 100 years. However, some were more innovative than others.

This particular dress watch from Piaget — which specialized in ultra-thin watchmaking — is one such example.

This piece, a Reference 13104, features a stepped 34mm, 18k white gold case with a ‘hobnail’ textured bezel, straight lugs and a winding crown at 3 o’clock. The bezel finishing translates over to the dial’s aesthetics displaying a matching ‘hobnail’ pattern, a set of slim ‘baton’ indices, a date window at 3 o’clock and a matching stick handset. It comes fitted on a brown leather strap with a signed 18k white gold pin buckle and utilizes an automatic movement to keep accurate time.

In excellent condition showing light patination from age, this example dates back to the 1970s and is a classic time and date model from a Swiss manufacture known for their playful designs, textured finishing and silhouettes.
